Humble Beginnings

The Shepherd’s group was started by Bill Shepherd back in 2015 when he founded Shepherd’s Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc. back in 2015, but it actually all started earlier – in the 1930’s with Morris Pierce, Bill’s grandfather. Pierce was a licensed plumber in Fresno who later came to the Bay Area in the 50’s. Here, he founded Pierce Plumbing, a contracting company that focused solely on general plumbing services.

Around 1990, Pierce’s son John bought the company from him, changing the name to Shepherd Services and adding a second division to the business that specialized in expert witness services for construction defect litigation.

Now Shepherd’s: Expansion & Exponential Growth

Not long after, Bill Shepherd took over his dad’s company. He focused on expanding Shepherd’s construction and remodeling division. Under his exemplary leadership, the division grew eightfold within ten years.

By 2015, Bill Shepherd founded his own company—Shepherd’s Plumbing, Heating & A/C Inc. On top of residential services like plumbing repair and general maintenance, Shepherd’s now offers extensive heater and air conditioning services.

In 2020, Shepherd’s took ownership of Shepherd’s Disaster Recovery and Remediation services, providing specialty cleanup and sanitation services throughout the Bay Area.

Present Day: The Shepherd’s Legacy

Even though SPHAC and Shepards Disaster Recovery & Remediation hves only existed independently for a few years, they’re built on the dynasty of three generations of plumbers and decades of specialty cleaning specialists.

The Team

Bill Shepherd

Bill is a husband, father of four, and third-generation plumber. His interest in the industry first sparked at the age of six, when he rode his bicycle to a job site to bring his dad dinner. His dad, at that time, was currently remodeling a bathroom, and little Bill stuck around to help him install a toilet. This sealed Bill’s fate: he loved the satisfaction of doing work that others found tough to do, and the sheer joy of making people happy in the process. When he’s not busy helping people with their A/C, pipes, or heaters, he enjoys teaching scuba diving, fishing, model rockets, hunting, and cooking. In his spare time, he volunteers as a mentor through the Christian Service Brigade.

Luis Santos

Luis currently lives in San Jose with his wife and their three children. Originally a math professor at the University of El Salvador, Luis was advised to leave the country after the Duarte coup. After a circuitous career ranging from pool construction and repair to welding radiators, he found work under John Shepherd in 1996. He has subsequently followed the son, Bill, to his new company where he continues as a master plumber with decades of experience. He has been an invaluable and much loved team member for many years.
